Located in the heart of the Pennines in West Yorkshire, this small sleepy market town which is situated at the meeting points of three valleys became known as ‘UFO Alley’ during the 1980′s due to a case of alien abduction.
During the last months of 1980, Britain was experiencing a wave of UFO sightings culminating in the sightings on the East Anglican Coast at Rendelsham Forest. It was at this time that local Police Constable Alan Godfrey was working on the night of 28th of November.
Godfrey was travelling along Burnley road in his car, looking for some cows that had been reported missing, which were later discovered in the morning having been relocated into a different field completely with no hoofmarks or signs of transportation. After an unsuccessful journey he was about to return back to the police station to end his night shift when he observed an oval mass or shape rotating fast and hovering low, even making the surrounding bushes and foliage shake.
Stopping the car Godfrey got out and used his Police Officers note book to sketch the UFO, the next thing he remembers is a bright beam of light and then being back in the car further down Burnley road with the only clue left of the UFO’s presence being a dry circular patch on the otherwise rain-soaked road. It was only when he returned back to the police station that he realised it was later than he thought, only around 15 minutes but ‘missing time’ none the less.
At first Godfrey decided not to report the incident until 2 more witness statements were made, one by a driver just 3 miles away up Burnley road at Cliviger who contacted Todmorden police to report a ‘brilliant white light’ , and the other another police patrol from Halifax who were on Calder Valley Moors searching for stolen Motorbikes, reporting a brilliant blue-white light descending into the Valley towards Todmorden.
Alan Godfrey could not remember any events of the ‘missing time’, except a confused memory of seeing himself outside the car during the event, his police boot was also mysteriously ripped on the sole as if it had been caught on something. The UFO incident was reported nationwide in the newspapers some printing Alan Godfreys name.
Eight months after the encounter he agreed to have hypnotic regression and his later sessions were even video taped. His recall was hazy but included him remembering static interference on his radio and police handset just before he lost conciousness. He then describes a room with a bearded man using telepathy to tell him his name was ‘Yosef’ , assisted by small robot-like creatures only around the ‘size of a 5 year old lad’ with ‘heads shaped like lamps’. A large black dog creature was also present in the room.
Godfrey did not recall under hypnosis any of the usual examination by the beings which is often reported, but just that he was promised another visitation in the future. After the report being published nationwide by tabloid newspapers some years later Godfrey resigned from the police force.
Before, during and after the 1980′s Todmorden in West Yorkshire continues to be a ‘hot spot’ for UFO encounters.
